In April of 2026, the General Secretariat of the Synod finalized the text “Towards the Assemblies 2027-2028.  Stages, criteria and tools for preparation”.  This text, approved by Pope Leo XIV, outlines the process to be undertaken globally from 2026 to 2028 in preparation for an Assembly in Rome in October of 2028.  The first stage of the process, which is to take place between now and June of 2027, is to be at the diocesan level, parishes and other groups within the local Church “Recollecting” on their experience of, and hopes for being part of, a synodal church.
