Youth and Young Adult Ministry

The Archdiocese of St. John’s is committed to building a Church in which the gifts and talents of all are welcomed, nurtured and placed at the service of all.

We call our vision one of “Comprehensive Youth Ministry.” It is grounded in the mission of Jesus and the Church. Comprehensive Youth Ministry is focused on building a community that is growing together in in Christian Discipleship.

The three particular goals that guide this vision or model of Youth Ministry are:
  • Youth Ministry aims and works to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person;
  • Youth Ministry seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community;
  • Youth Ministry empowers young people to become disciples of Jesus Christ who witness to their faith by living and working for justice, peace and human dignity.

The Archdiocese of St. John’s offers:

  • Support and information for parishes wishing to grow their Youth and Young Adult Ministry efforts
  • Retreats and workshops for youth and for parish leaders
  • Regular gatherings of youth and young adults
  • CYAN (Catholic Young Adults of Newfoundland, which gathers for fellowship, prayer and education on the second Saturday evening of each month)
  • Preparation and accompaniment for larger regional and world-wide gatherings, such as World Youth Day, Steubenville Atlantic, Catholic Student conferences, etc.
  • Regular events at Memorial University
