In 2017 Pope Francis instituted the World Day of the Poor so that “throughout the world Christian communities can become an ever greater sign of Christ’s charity for the least and those most in need.”

In anticipation of the upcoming World Day of the Poor (16 November 2025), the CCCB has issued a pastoral letter by the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace, titled “Our Daily Bread: Food Security and the Call to Solidarity.” Centred on the themes of solidarity, harmony, and harvest, the pastoral letter highlights the current challenges to food security, both globally and in Canada. It urges Canadians to consider practical ways they can live in solidarity with those who lack food as well as to ensure that God’s abundant gifts reach all those in need.
