PARISH CATECHETICAL COORDINATOR
St. Teresa’s Parish, St. John’s, NL
Seasonal Part Time – 15 Hours per Week (September – June)
Reporting to the Parish Priest, the Catechetical Coordinator is required, in collaboration with the Parish Priest, to develop and maintain comprehensive parish catechetical programs for families and children, working closely with the various parish liturgical committees and parish council. This individual must be a self-starter, good listener, have the ability to safeguard confidential information, ability to give and take direction, handle multiple tasks, exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills, and utilize email and computer technology. This individual must also be collaborative; adept at planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs. The hours for this position are flexible as some evenings and weekends will be required for Sacramental Preparation for children and parents, meetings with parents and other Catechetical Ministry support, and Liturgy of the Word with Children.
Key Responsibilities
1. Be in regular communication, and collaborate with pastor, and parish leadership; attending regular parish staff meetings
2. Provide necessary support and guidance, engage families with the Archdiocesan Living Faith weekly resource
3.Engage families with regular Family Gatherings
4. Prepare and facilitate catechetical sessions using approved materials
5. Oversee and engage families in Sacramental Preparation processes.
6. Facilitate the registration of children and youth in the sacramental preparation catechetical process and facilitate appropriate parents’ meetings
7. Coordinate Rituals for the community with those families who have candidates preparing for Eucharist, Confirmation, and Reconciliation
8. Attend Archdiocesan catechist meetings and serve as liaison with the Archdiocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis
9. Recruit, train and monitor the effectiveness of all catechists and volunteer support personnel at the parish level, ensuring all catechists have approved qualifications and adequate formation and that they carry out their responsibilities
10. Coordinate Liturgy of the Word with Children at Sunday liturgies
11. Develop and maintain Facebook or other Social Media networks for various groups
12. Complete clerical responsibilities: letters, certificates, etc.
13. To provide lists of participating families and registration to parish office
14. Maintain and update parish registers for Baptism and Confirmation
15. To be in compliance with and ensure volunteers have necessary Code of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector checks for being involved with ministry in the Archdiocese
16. To work with pastor, and parish leadership to plan and publicize activities and events
17. To create a welcoming environment in session venues
18. To be supportive and encouraging to the young people and their parents or guardians
19. To prepare and administer the annual parish budget for catechesis
20. To commit to ongoing formation
